Darkroom: Photo & Video Editor
RAW editing with the filmstrip, the histogram and the photograph itself all on screen at once, which a phone has never allowed.
Free · 4.74 from 3,307 ratings · iOS 18.4 or later · updated 30 October 2026
Darkroom takes RAW and ProRAW files, edits in batches across a set of photographs rather than one at a time, grades 4K video, and masks by depth so an adjustment lands on the sky or on skin tones instead of on the whole frame. It has been an Apple Editors' Choice since 2018 and won an Apple Design Award in 2020, both stated on the listing.
What earns it a place on a list about a folding phone, rather than on a list of good editors, is where it begins. There is no import step and no catalogue to manage. The photographs are already on the device, and Darkroom opens on top of the roll, which means the thing it needs room for is the roll itself.
What the fold changes
Editing a photograph is a comparison task. That is the whole reason desktop editors look the way they do: the image, the controls and the rest of the roll have to be visible together, because every decision you make is a decision about this frame against the last one. A folded phone shows you one of the three and charges you a swipe for each of the others.
That is an argument rather than a test. The iPhone Duo has been on sale since 23 October 2026 and this app has not been seen running on one.
