How the shortlists on this site are put together, what they are not, and how the site makes money. If anything here turns out not to match what we publish, tell us and we will fix the page or this one.
What this site is
Duo Apps publishes curated shortlists of apps for iPhone. The picks are compiled from public sources: App Store listings, developers’ own websites and documentation, changelogs, support pages, and published coverage elsewhere.
These are not hands-on reviews. We do not claim to have installed, bought, or lived with every app we write about, and nothing on the site should be read as a report of our own experience using one. Where a page describes what an app does, it is describing what the developer and the listing say it does.
How the pages are written
Two kinds of page, written two different ways, and each page says which kind it is.
The shortlists are written by a person. Which apps are on one, the order they are in and the line explaining each place are editorial decisions, drafted with the help of AI tools and checked against the sources listed at the foot of the page.
Most entry pages are written by a language model and published automatically. The model is given the app’s own App Store listing and writes only from it — it is never asked what it knows about an app — and the page goes live when a set of checks passes, without anybody reading it first. The checks are the reason that is defensible: no price, rating, version or size may appear in the writing, because those are read from the App Store on a schedule and printed by the page itself; no number may appear that is not in the listing; nothing may claim we have used the app; nothing may make a claim about a company’s conduct or privacy; and no sentence may go out that is not tied to a passage of the source the page links to. A page that fails any of them is not published, and each published one names the model that wrote it.
That catches the errors it was built to catch and will not catch all of them. Prices and features change without notice. Check the App Store listing before you buy anything, and tell us when a page is wrong. A page that is wrong gets corrected or taken down, and a developer who wants their app’s page gone does not have to give a reason.
What we don't do
- We don’t sell placement. No developer can pay to be included in a shortlist or to rank higher in one.
- We don’t invent experience. No fabricated test results, user quotes, or usage figures.
- We don’t copy other publishers’ writing or republish their lists under our own name.
How we make money
Some links may earn us a commission if you go on to download or buy something. Where that is the case, it is stated at the top of the page. Commission never affects whether an app is included or where it appears.
If a developer ever pays for a placement or gives us something of value, that page will be labelled as sponsored, in plain words, before the content.
Images and trademarks
App icons and screenshots are the property of their developers and are used here to identify and discuss those apps. We use developers’ own press materials and listing images, unmodified, with credit. Duo Apps is independent and not affiliated with Apple Inc. or with any developer featured here.
Corrections
Report anything wrong through the contact page, with the page URL and what’s wrong. Corrections are made on the page itself with a dated note, and if a developer asks us to take a page or an image down, we take it down first and discuss it afterwards.
