Lake is a colouring app for iPhone and iPad, published by Lake d.o.o., and its pages are illustrations first: the listing counts over 1500 drawings by more than 100 independent artists, each picked by the app's editors, with part of every subscription going to those artists. New work lands at least once a month as a 12-page book made only for Lake, and a Book of the Week sets a fresh challenge. Apple gave it a Design Award in 2017.

The tools take up most of the listing. Colour comes from a Rainbow of more than 700 shades, ready-made palettes that include skin tones, and a Colour Picker for anything else. The current version adds more than 10 brushes, four of them glitter tools, along with almost 20 palettes, and gathers every brush into a redesigned tools menu. Going outside the lines is allowed. A reference option shows how an artist coloured a drawing, for anyone who wants to reproduce that version.

The catalogue is optional. A drawing can be imported from the device or photographed, and a blank canvas accepts freehand work, so a person's own sketches or line art can become colouring pages. Three features sit around the colouring itself: a palette picked to match a mood, a journal for writing during a session, and an ASMR mode that plays the sound of the brushes. Video tutorials cover tools and technique, and the developer lists offline use and iCloud sync.

What the fold changes

Colouring is close work on one small region at a time, and the rest of the drawing still decides which colour goes next. On a small screen that means zooming in for the detail and back out to check the whole page, with a finger covering part of whatever is being filled. A larger screen shows more of the drawing at a working zoom. The developer's release notes make a similar case: colour anywhere, and unfold the phone when the details need more room.

That is an argument rather than a test. The iPhone Duo has been on sale since 23 October 2026 and this app has not been seen running on one.

Written from the App Store listing. The prose was written by claude-opus-5-5 from those sources and from nothing else, and the page was published once every check had passed: no figures in the writing, no first-hand experience claimed, no sentence that is not bound to a passage above. The disclosure page lists them. If something here is wrong, or you are the developer and want it changed or taken down, say so and it gets fixed.

On the App Store (gb) when these figures were last fetched, on 3 November 2026: version 5.0.0, 261 MB, Lifestyle, rated 4+, first released 15 March 2017. Those figures drift and are never typed by hand; the listing is the authority. The developer’s own site is here.
