duo-appsPDFs & scores · seven apps

Fixed pages, nearer the size they were set at

Documents that cannot reflow — PDFs, slides, worksheets, sheet music — where the page has one shape and the only question is how much of it fits.

Reflowing text does not really care what screen it is on. A novel repaginates and carries on. A PDF cannot: the page was set at a fixed size by whoever made it, and every screen smaller than that size is a choice between reading it whole and reading it legibly.

That makes fixed-layout documents the least ambiguous argument on the site. Nothing here is about a second pane or a wider timeline. It is about the page being closer to its own proportions, and the margin still being recognisably a margin.

Sheet music is the extreme case and is why two score apps are on the list: a page of music is not a document you skim, it is one you read at speed with your hands occupied, and a page turn you have to think about is worse than a page turn you do not.

  1. 1

    forScore

    forScore LLC

Sheet music as PDFs, with setlists, annotations and page turns, used from a music stand. Of everything on the site this is the app where screen size is least negotiable: the music is read at tempo, and a page you have to pan around is not a page you can play from.

  2. 2

    MuseScore-Sheet Music & Chords

    MuseScore Limited

A catalogue of scores to view and play, for whichever instrument you turned up with. Browsing a score to decide whether it is the arrangement you wanted is a job done at a glance, and a glance needs the system on screen rather than a few bars of it.

  3. 3

    PDF Expert: Editor & Converter

    Readdle Technologies Limited

Reading, annotating, filling and signing, plus merging and splitting — the whole set of things done to a PDF that are not reading it. Filling a form is the clearest case: the field and the label that explains it are placed at page scale, and shrinking the page separates them.

  4. 4

Notability: AI Notes & PDF app

    Ginger Labs, Inc.

Handwritten notes over PDFs, textbooks and lecture slides, with audio recorded alongside. Marking up a slide means writing in the space the slide left for writing, and on a small screen that space is a few millimetres of real estate.

  5. 5

    Noteshelf: AI Notes & PDF

    Fluid Touch Pte. Ltd.

The same annotate-a-document job, with recording while you write and a presentation mode for an external display. An app that expects to be driven while someone is talking is an app where hunting for the right part of the page is the thing that costs you the sentence.

  6. 6

    Goodnotes: AI Notes, Docs, PDF

Notes & PDFs · Goodnotes Limited

The PDF side rather than the whiteboard side: importing documents and writing on them by hand. Handwriting is the input most punished by a small page, because the pen needs the same room on screen that it would need on paper and the paper does not shrink with the display.

  7. 7

    Panels - Comic Reader

    Produkt Software Engineering S.L.

Comics as CBR, CBZ, CB7 and PDF, from your own files rather than a store. A comic page is fixed layout taken to its conclusion — the panel grid is the composition — and reading it a panel at a time is reading something other than what was drawn.

The selection and the order are ours. Each entry is written from that app’s own App Store listing, linked beside it, and this page from Apple's iPhone Duo product page. Drafted with AI assistance and checked back against those sources before publishing; the disclosure page explains how. The iPhone Duo has been on sale since 23 October 2026 and nothing here has been seen running on one, so what each entry says about the fold is an argument rather than a test.
